Yusupov palace on the Moika River is one of 57 palaces, owned by the richest family in the tsar Russia – the Yusupovs. This palace is famous for the murder, which happened in late 1916 inside this palace – the murder of a close friend of royal family Grigory Rasputin.
The luxury palace built in 1770 and redesigned several times. In 1830, Duke Boris Yusupov purchased this palace and since then up until 1917, it was the property of 5 generations of this family. The last owner of this palace – Duke Felix Yusupov – is known for arrangement of the murder of Grigory Rasputin. In this exactly palace, on the night from 16 to 17 of December 1916, they killed Rasputin. Now there is a permanent exhibition dedicated to this event.
Now the palace is a large cultural center of the city. There is a small and glorious private theatre inside the palace, often used for plays and musical concerts. There is also a range of thematic excursions.
